Definitely not!
Consider the value of the item you want to purchase before you place a bid. Then place exactly the amount seeming fair to you.
Don't be bugged if the item is sold at a price slightly higher than your bid.
This doesn't mean you'd have won the item for that price since you don't see the winner's maximum bid but just the bid slightly higher than yours.
